The Fool is the first card in the deck and the only one with a zero on it. That zero is not nothing. It is the breath before the first step. The Fool stands at the edge of a cliff with a small bag and no plan and decides, anyway, to go.
Upright
When the Fool lands face up, something in your life is asking you to begin without knowing how it ends. A trip. A relationship. A piece of work you have never tried. The card is not promising it will go well. The card is reminding you that you cannot earn the right to start by waiting any longer.
Reversed
Reversed, the Fool is asking whether you are about to leap because you have a vision, or because you are running. They look the same from outside. The card is the friend who pulls you back to the kitchen table and asks the second question.
When it shows up
The Fool tends to show up at the end of a chapter you did not know was a chapter. You are about to start over, even if you are still pretending you are not.
